Greece is one of the most popular countries to visit and it has been on my bucket list for a very long time. The ancient history, delicious food and amazing views is why it remains a top tiered travel destination. There are different options on how you can visit the country: You can do guided tours with travel companies or do a self guided tour. We decided to do it on our own so that we have more flexibility on things we wanted to do/see. After doing research we narrowed our cities down to Athens, Mykonos and Santorini.
Athens, named after the Greek Goddess Athena, is the capitol of Greece with many points of interest. Being the heart of ancient Greece, the city contains rich history (ancient architecture and archeology) as well as great shopping and amazing food. We stayed at O&B Suites which is close to the Acropolis so it was walking distance to everything we wanted to do.

The Acropolis of Athens is one of the most famous archeological cites in the world. It is in the heart of the city of Athens located on a hilltop with amazing views.
It is a former temple dedicated to the Greek Goddess Athena and sits at the hilltop of Acropolis. It is a must see in Athens! The place is filled with tourists so plan on spending couple of hours here. You can buy tickets at the office onsite and walk right in.
One of the oldest cities in Athens and it is walking distance from Acropolis. This neighborhood contains tons of restaurants and shops.
Known as little monastery, it is located North of Plaka with popular shopping areas and restaurants close by.
An island in the Cyclades group known for their beautiful beaches and nightlife. The beautiful white sand beaches are absolutely worth seeing. We stayed closer to Paradise Beach to have an amazing view of the beach.

We ended up taking a ferry from Athens to Mykonos and it was really nice. We booked the ferry through Hellenic Seaways.

The Mykonos windmills are an iconic feature of the Greek islands.
Little Venice/ Mykonos Town
All the houses in Mykonos town are painted with white and have bright colored shutters. Most of the area is restricted to access by pedestrians only which means no automobiles will be able to fly by. Be prepared for lots of tourists taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful water views.
Santorini is one of the most breathtaking place I have ever visited. I couldn’t get enough of the white cave houses looking at the blue water. The two most popular towns are Oia and Fira. The town of Oia is picture perfect and you will not want to leave from there. Santorini is a small island so getting around is really easy. We ended up staying in Oia since most of the stuff we wanted to do was walking distance from there. Stayed at Oia Suites and it was breathtaking.
Things to do in Santorini:
Watching the sunset in Oia is absolutely breathtaking (We were able to watch from our Hotel)
Sunset sailing tour (we had to cancel ours due to really high winds)
Gaze at the caldera
Hike from Oia to Fira
Eat as much as possilbe
Places to Eat in Santorini:
Ammoudi, Ambrosia Restaurant, Pito Gyros, Cafe Flora, Meza Meza
Spend a day exploring the city of Fira. You can either take public transportation, rent an ATV or hike from Oia to Fira. It will probably take about 4-5 hours for the hike but the views are amazing. We took public transportation to get to Fira but on our way back hiked from Fira to Imerovigli and took the bus from there.
